Random figs

Since I started working on the IGs and Hirst Arts stuff, it only made sense to take a look through my old figs to see what I could bring to life. I found some which had primer and barely any paint which I think I which can save. I also found some without primer so I am getting them ready to go.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to take old paint off? I'd welcome any suggestions. Hoping to get some pics and some more primed while I smoke some ribs and ham hocks tomorrow. Might as well make the most of a lost day since the kids are sick and we won't make the Day Out with Thomas.

Hirst Arts project

Since my return from GenCon I have been playing with some Hirst Arts molds and have since added some more. I think I have 6 now. Plans include some terrain for my Imperial Guard, Castle Caldwell, and some sort of Snow White's castle for Molly. Pics of my first pours to come soon. I need more plaster, so that is on hold for now.

Imperial Guard update

So it seems someone was reading this blog and for her I am back to updating.
I bought a battle box and have most everything assembled and will be putting a second command squad together soon. I am nearly done my Chimera and I have a Leman Russ arriving this week.
I will also be tinkering with some additional models and some modifications just for fun with the extra bits and some eBay purchases, but first to field some troops.
Priming and painting to come soon. Guess I will take advantage of sick kids and us missing the Hershey/Day Out with Thomas to get some stuff done.

new stuff coming and into a new realm

GenCon was a lot of fun and while ther I found a vendor selling molds so in the very near future I will start building based and some other stuff so be on the lookout. If it goes well, I will be purchasing more molds and potentially selling module sets. Will have to play around and see how successful I am. Starting as soon as I get back from Denver.

Imperial battleforce

Opened my first Imperial battlefircw this morning. Hoping to get some time this week to start pre-assembly. Leaving forGenCon on Wednesday afternoon, so nothing doing then.
The first sentinel has a base now, though I now see what you miss when you get things off of eBay and don't do some homework first. Guess  need some more reading material and tuteledge as I move forward.

Molly's Painting

Here is Molly's first IG miniature. She was trying to match my color scheme and is more than excited to paint and play. I've never seen anyone so excited and vociferous about being a nerd.

Hopefully over the next few sessions she will have some better brush control and will show a bit better control, but who can argue with her enthusiasm. I am ever proud.

Sentinel Interior

Interior of the Sentinel is nearly done, time for assembly. Here are some pictures to show color scheme and progress. I have no idea what the outside will look like, but am happy to take some suggestions. I am thinking to go with a US WWI scheme to match the IG units' color scheme.  Any idea what a good US WWI tank green is?

I went with the idea that the IG would be industrious given the volume of troops they support and that brought to mind government contracting and the industrial gray.

Comments welcomed.

Continuing on with my Imperials

Work has finally started on my remaining three Imprial troops. One is clearly over-primed, but should end up ok. Also started the interior paint on the sentinel. Photos to come to ight when I get some more paint on them. Hopefully start assembly on the battle force next week.

Making progress

The Mummy figure is moving along, hopefully I will get close to complete tomorrow morning and will post a photo update. Following that it is time to complete the painting on my fist group of Imperials and start assembly on my first Sentinel.

Imperial Army Update

I am nearly completed my first Imperial. It took a while, but I sprinkled in a 10 day vacation and pulled muscle, so not too terribly bad. I need to complete his face, but otherwise think this is done. Time to replicate onto the rest of the army as I build them. Please feel free to give some feedback.
While I was looking through my old paints, and say something for the quality of Games Workshop bottles, this 10 year old paint is still good. I decided to paint up an old GW miniature I had primed white. I didn't do any clean up then apparently as there is flash on the mini still, but I went ahead with painting anyway. This is another practice case.
I'm not sure what model this was from GW, but is some sort of mummy figure.  Too bad they don't make mini's like this anymore. If anyone has old figs like this that aren't painted, I'd like to get them.

First Fail

Well attempted to paint last night and came to my first major fail...I didn't have brushes! Guess at some point in my travels and moving, I lost all of my brushes.  Hitting Michael's tonight on the way home to pick us a small set...any suggestions?!?!?

Welcome to my learning experience

I've decided I would document my experience with learning to paint miniatures.  Just as background, I did paint when I was in high school, but that worth just a passing mention. Looking at those now is horribly embarrassing, especially considering I thought we did well then. The artistry of what seems standard now far exceeds those of 20 years ago.

I'll post some pics as I progress through my first set of figs, Imperial Cadians from GAMESWORKSHOP. I've already assembled them...I'll attempt kit bashing later, let's work on some basic technique first. I'll also detail colors and design ideas as I get them.  Following the Cadians will be an Imperial Sentinel.

I welcome comments, so please...

Welcome
